2025-2026 Proposed Intermediate Attendance Boundaries
Click Here To Expand For Details
As our community continues to grow, Mustang Public Schools remains committed to providing a high-quality educational experience for all students. To meet the needs of our expanding district and prepare for future growth, it has become necessary to realign the attendance boundaries for our intermediate and middle schools.
This proposed realignment, if approved, will take effect in the 2025-2026 school year. It is designed to address several important goals:
- Alleviate Overpopulation: Adjust boundaries to reduce overpopulation at some sites, ensuring equitable distribution of students.
- Plan for Growth: Create boundaries that account for anticipated growth across our district.
- Enhance Consistency: Establish a more seamless progression for students as they transition from elementary to intermediate to middle school.
These changes align with the thoughtful and meticulous process of the recent elementary boundary realignment. Guided by demographic studies and community feedback, we are working to ensure this transition minimizes disruption while maximizing opportunities for student success.
We understand that this process can bring concerns and questions, especially when families have built strong connections to their current schools. Please know that these decisions are not made lightly and involve extensive analysis, including student population data, transportation logistics, and anticipated growth patterns.
Below, you will see several tabs with information about the boundary realignment proposal.

About The Process
As we worked through this process, we adhered to the following guiding principles to minimize disruption whenever possible:
- Housing additions were kept intact to preserve neighborhood connections.
- Transportation plans prioritize student safety, with a goal of maintaining bus rides under 40 minutes (rural routes are closely monitored).
- Buses will not be routed past one school to reach another.
- The "right-turn-only" rule is maintained for bus routes on high-traffic, four-lane roads.
This boundary realignment ensures that all our intermediate schools can continue providing the high-quality education and support that Mustang families expect. While change can be difficult, we are confident that transitioning families will quickly feel at home and build strong connections in their new schools.

Creating new boundaries is a huge puzzle with many moving pieces, and it is not done lightly. The video of the elementary presentation given to the Board discusses the process and guidelines for establishing the elementary boundaries in depth; you can view the presentation by visiting https://bit.ly/ESBoundaryRealignment25. The section discussing this topic begins at the 22-minute, 30-second mark. Although this is not specific to intermediate schools, it sheds light on the overall process and the complexity of boundary realignment.

How do I know, for sure, which school we are zoned to attend?
Is there an exception for incoming 6th graders?
Is there an exception for incoming 6th graders (students who have spent prior years at a particular school) so that they can stay at that school?
In the past, there was an exception for this; it was called the exit year transfer.
Unfortunately, due to recent legislative changes, including Oklahoma House Bill 3386, Senate Bill 783, and 70 OK Stat § 8-101.2 (2023), the option for sixth-grade students to remain at their current school for their "exit year" is no longer available. We understand that this change may create additional challenges for some families, and we want to assure you that we are here to support you throughout this transition.
We are planning a special Open House at your new school prior to the start of the school year in August. This will be an excellent opportunity for you and your child(ren) to meet the staff, explore the school, and begin building new connections. More details will be shared as the date approaches.
The Board of Education will make a final determination on these boundary adjustments at their regular February meeting, which will be held on February 17, 2025. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at MERCcontact@mustangps.org, and we will do our best to reply as soon as possible.
We are deeply grateful to our community; your partnership allows Mustang Public Schools to grow and thrive, ensuring a bright future for all of our students.

MPS Families,
During the May 8, 2023 meeting of the Mustang Public Schools Board of Education, the Board voted to approve a plan to realign some elementary attendance boundaries for the 2023-24 school year (starting in August) to address student enrollment growth. This plan is a small part of the larger plan to address the future addition of Elementary #9, but is necessary now due to increased enrollment and enrollment projections.
This plan will impact Riverwood Elementary, Mustang Creek Elementary, & Mustang Trails Elementary.
This map illustrates the newly approved boundaries: In the map above, instead of attending Riverwood Elementary, families who reside in the turquoise “reverse L” (top left of map) will attend Trails Elementary; while those residing in the orange rectangle (middle-right of map) will attend Mustang Creek Elementary. The new maps will soon be available on our website: https://www.mustangps.org/explore/district-boundary-maps.Parents of students who will be in a different elementary school boundary for 2023-2024 will receive a letter in the coming weeks confirming the move. Mustang Public Schools has a policy in place that will allow students who will be fourth graders next year to remain in their current school for their "exit year." Parents must fill out a transfer form and turn it in at their current elementary school. Once the form is received, the transfer for exit year students will be automatically approved. Parents can also fill out a transfer form for younger students if they would like for them to remain at their original school, but approval of those transfers is based on enrollment. Transportation must be provided by the parents for any transfers.
“We know that change is not always easy,” Superintendent Charles Bradley said, “but this is absolutely necessary to prepare for our new elementary school and to allow for growth in student enrollment for the upcoming year.” Please direct any questions/concerns to MERCcontact@mustangps.org.

2025-2026 Proposed Elementary Boundary Realignment
Click Here To Expand For Details
Thanks to the support of our community, the passage of the #Momentum23 Bond in February 2023 has made it possible to address the needs of our growing district. One of the most significant outcomes of this bond is the construction of our ninth elementary school, Sunset Hill Elementary, located at the southeast corner of SW 44th & Sara Rd. This 90,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility is set to open in August 2025 and will play a critical role in reducing overcrowding at our existing elementary schools while accommodating future growth.
With this exciting addition comes the necessary step of realigning our elementary school attendance boundaries to establish an attendance boundary for Sunset Hill Elementary, realign existing boundaries to address overcrowding/improve transportation, and design boundaries that can best accommodate anticipated growth.
Approximately 600 students will join us in celebrating the opening of Sunset Hill Elementary, while an additional 13% (or 740) of our elementary school students will transition to other schools within the district starting in the 2025-2026 school year.
Below, you will see several tabs with information about the boundary realignment proposal.

We will also be reviewing the boundaries for our intermediate and middle schools as part of this process. Any proposed changes to those boundaries would take effect for the 2025-2026 school year, as well. We are working diligently to develop a proposal for any potential changes and anticipate presenting it to the Board of Education for review in January or February. Once the proposal is ready, we will communicate the details to families as soon as possible to allow time for questions.
The Board of Education will make a final determination on these boundary adjustments at their regular January meeting, held on January 13, 2025. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at MERCcontact@mustangps.org and we will do our best to reply as soon as possible.
