🧊Winter Weather Decisions ❄️

A graphic for Mustang Public Schools that says "Winter Weather Decisions.". The graphic has a snowy road with icy trees.

If you haven’t stocked up on milk and bread yet, don’t worry, there’s still time! In all seriousness, the cold months in Oklahoma often bring tough calls about school closures, and before our favorite meteorologists roll up their sleeves, start talking to Loretta, or bring out the shiny ties, I want to take a moment to share how Mustang Public Schools approaches these decisions.

The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. We know weather-related closures can be disruptive for families, and every decision is made carefully after reviewing multiple factors. Our team monitors weather forecasts, road conditions, and recommendations from emergency management and local authorities. We also work closely with meteorologists, transportation staff, and neighboring school districts to ensure we have the most accurate and up-to-date information.

In a district that spans more than 72 square miles, from rural roads to neighborhood streets, we consider how the weather may impact each area differently. We assess bus safety, facility conditions, and the overall ability for students and staff to travel safely before making any decision.

When possible, we make any closure decisions as early as possible to give our families time to plan. If schools must close, you will receive updates through our district communication channels, including email, phone, and text, as well as on our website, social media, and local news outlets. You can review our full procedures online at https://www.mustangps.org/families-students/inclement-weather-information.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make these difficult calls. Our commitment will always be to the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families. Thank you for your continued support and for helping us keep our Mustang community safe.

Sincerely,

Charles Bradley, Superintendent
Mustang Public Schools
