MHS Senior Alexander Vo was included in this year's list of 100 top high school students in the state.  An Academic All-State scholar is a student who has demonstrated academic excellence and who has excelled within his or her own particular learning environment.  In order to be eligible for this honor, a student must be a currently enrolled Oklahoma public high-school senior who meets any one of these five criteria:

1) composite ACT score of at least 30

2) combined SAT Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and Math score of at least 1370

3) National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist

4) National Achievement Scholarship Program semifinalist

5) National Hispanic Scholar Awards Program semifinalist

In addition to the minimum criteria, students were also evaluated on the basis of their leadership abilities, motivation, academic achievement and character as maximized within each student’s learning environment.

The 2023 Academic All-State class is the 37th to be selected by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence.  Since the award program’s inception in 1987, some 3,700 high school seniors from 330 school districts have been named Academic All-State scholars.

This year’s All-Staters scored an average of 33 on the ACT, with six recipients scoring a perfect 36. The students’ average GPA was 4.25. In addition, 29 of this year’s All-Staters are National Merit semifinalists. Each of this year’s All-Staters will receive a $1,500 merit-based scholarship and a medallion. The All-Staters will be recognized at the foundation’s 37th annual Academic Awards Celebration on Saturday, May 20, at the Cox Business Convention Center in Tulsa.
