HB3958: School-Family Communication Law Information

Subject: Important Update on Communication Law (HB 3958) Effective July 1, 2024

Dear Mustang Public Schools Community,

This post is meant to inform you about a state law effective July 1, 2024, impacting how school employees communicate with students. This law requires that all digital communication between school employees and students include the student’s parent or guardian unless conducted through a school-approved platform for school-related purposes. Currently (as of June 27, 2024), those platforms include:

• Google Education Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Classroom, etc.)
• Canvas (Learning Management System)
• School Messenger (Automated Text, Voicemail, Email - sent through PowerSchool or SM website)
• Linewize (Technology monitoring/communication system)
• Eleyo (CommUNITY Education automated communications; similar to School Messenger)

Additional Approvals (as of July 15, 2024 BOE Meeting):

• Minga Solutions - Campus Management Platform
• Clever - Student Roster Management
• HUDL - Athletics Communication

• Flexpoint - Virtual Instruction platform for Grades K-6
