Johnson O'Malley

Mustang Schools do not fall within any tribal jurisdiction.  For this reason, our district is served by the Cheyenne and Arapaho Johnson O'Malley program. It is a federally funded program that provides supplemental assistance for the unique educational needs of individual students. Funding for the program is provided annually for all eligible Native American students who live within the nine-county service area and attend a public school or one of the Tribes' Head Start Programs.

Assistance is also available by special request for students to attend UNITY, FFA Conferences, FCCLA conferences, and educational conferences in conjunction with school or classes.  In the summer months, assistance may also be available for Summer Enrichment Camps within Johnson O'Malley communities. This assistance is based on the availability of funds.

To qualify for JOM assistance, a student must meet the following criteria:

  1.  1/4 or more Indian blood, with proof of enrollment and a copy of CDIB
  2.  Must attend public school and reside within the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes service area
  3.  Students enrolled with a tribe by descendancy must show proof by CDIB or parent's CDIB
  4.  If a child is not enrolled and is 3/4 or more degree of Indian blood, a copy of the child's birth certificate to show relationship with an enrolled parent with such tribes as Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek and Seminole Tribes of Oklahoma who do not have a blood quantum, are eligible for Johnson O'Malley

Enrolled students are also eligible for Tribal assistance for Educational Support Items and Student Activities
