In accordance with the policy of the board of education to recognize and facilitate the public’s right of access to and review of the district’s public records, the following regulations shall apply:
Public access to district records shall be provided in accordance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations. The district shall implement the procedures laid out in policy 2040 to provide prompt and reasonable access to its records in a manner that protects the integrity and organization of its records and prevents excessive disruptions to its essential functions.

Media Guidelines

MPS will work cooperatively with the news media for coverage of general news and events involving the district. Please respect the following media guidelines that will ensure the integrity of our instructional day and allow us to provide consistent, accurate information to our media representatives. 

The following guidelines are in effect at all MPS facilities and for all MPS employees: 

• All media inquiries must be directed to the Communications Department, Mustang Education Resource Center at 405-376-7919. Calling administrators, campuses, or MPS employees directly will delay the transmission of information.
  • MPS staff must alert the Communications Department any time they receive a media inquiry.
     
• A staff member of the Communications Department will be present at any and all interviews with members of the media. If this is not possible, the interview should be recorded by the MPS employee and reviewed by the Communications Department.
   
• The Communications Department reserves the right to refuse availability for a MPS employee. If an MPS employee is not available for comment, a written statement may be issued by the Communications Department.  Any other communication with the media will be considered not authorized by or representation of the District.
   
• The Communications Department must be contacted before a representative of the media visits a facility. If the media visits an MPS facility without prior approval from the Communications Department, he or she should be asked to leave and referred to the Communications Department. The principal will be notified to coordinate an appropriate time and campus contact person for media visits.
  • Exception: In the event that visitors are not allowed due to unforeseen circumstances, the Communications Department will work with the  media on alternate options.
    • Exception: If the district hosts a public event, then the above guidelines do not apply. (i.e. sporting events, concerts, etc.)
       
• Cameras/reporters will not be allowed inside the facility unless the MPS Communications Department has been notified and it is determined that such a visit will not be disruptive.
  • Photographs and video may be taken by the media at the discretion of the campus administrator/Communications Department.
  • The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) must be followed at all times. Each campus has a list of students whose “directory information” (i.e. name, address, picture) cannot be released per the parent’s request.
     
• The Superintendent or their designee shall be the official spokesperson for MPS.
