Just thought I would share a little information about me...
I have provided counseling services in Oklahoma as a Marital and Family Therapist since 2010 and as an ordained minister for nearly 20 years. I am currently licensed and hold two graduate degrees: Master of Arts in Human Relations (2007) and Master of Science in Marital and Family Therapy (2010). I completed a Special Education Bootcamp in 2019, which made it possible for me to accept a position at Canyon Ridge Intermediate School (Mustang School District) as a Special Education Teacher. I am currently assigned to the BRAIN Program, which allows me to utilize my therapeutic skills to help 5th and 6th grade students. My training has been diverse in regards to psychological theory and therapeutic intervention; therefore, my personal approach to individualized care incorporates a variety of beneficial strategies.
I provide educational instruction and therapeutic guidance in a classroom setting for 5th and 6th grade students who experience elevated emotional, social, and/or behavior challenges. One of my responsibilities is to construct and present lessons, based on the BrainWise curriculum for grades 6-12, that help students better understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behavior. I also participate in the development and maintenance of Individualized Education Plans for students who qualify.
My educational / instructional methodology is very laid-back and easy going. My classroom is relaxed and welcoming. My goal is to help every student I work with to develop the social / emotional skills to be successful in an educational setting and in life. I am truly looking forward to meeting all my new students and expect, even with the challenges in front of us, this to be a great year.
