Welcome to Miss Rumbaugh's
third grade! Parents
and students: Thanks
for a fabulous year! Have a great
summer!! Summer
Reading: I sent home a list of
suggested book titles for your child’s summer reading. Also, check out the public library. They have great summer reading programs. Summer
Math: Please continue to
practice multiplication facts once a week during the summer. Your child will be able to maintain their
quick fact recall if they review just one time a week for about 15
minutes. Some ideas besides
flashcards: - Students make a time test on the
computer and then race their parents to see you can complete the test first. - Play “Slap Facts”: Divide a deck of cards between the two
players (take out the face cards).
Each person lays down one card, with numbers up, at the same time. Multiply the two numbers together. The first person to say the correct answer
gets to keep the cards. The goal is to
get all the cards. - Use the internet (with parent
permission). If you Google
“multiplication facts,” you can find many websites that
offer math fact practice. - Write the multiplication facts with
chalk on your sidewalk or driveway. - Toss around a ball outside. Each time a person catches it, they have to
say a multiplication fact. Or, each
time they miss, the other person gives them a multiplication problem to
solve.
