Color Guard TeamThe Bronco Battalion Color Guard is the MHS JROTC program’s most visible team. They perform at most MHS sports events, Veterans and Memorial Day ceremonies, Hornets & Thunder NBA, Blazers Hockey and Redhawks Baseball games, local formal dinners, banquets and ceremonies. The team enters numerous color guard competitions annually. Cadet Blake Delano Honor Guard Commander Cadet Dlano is responsible for the Color Guard, Drill, and Saber team’s practice schedule and preparation for performances and competitive events. He has been a member of and commanded several Color Guard and Drill teams over the last three years. TOP OF TEXAS DRILL MEET Saturday, October 4, the Mustang High School JROTC program competed in the Top of Texas Drill Meet in Wichita Falls, TX. Over twenty schools competed from Oklahoma and Texas. The event was established to allow cadets to compete in armed and unarmed drill sequences, color guard routines, physical training, precision marksmanship and academics. Prior to their competition all teams were inspected by a representative of a certain branch of the military, who also graded the cadets over their personal uniform and a few military questions. In preparation for the competition cadets practiced for many weeks before and after school. “It wasn’t an over night thing” Instructor Sergeant Brown said, “these cadets put in a lot of hard work to accomplish the things they did”. The aggressive conditions made the event even more difficult for the color guard teams, as the wind blew over 3o miles an hours. The physical fitness teams did pull ups, shuttle run, long jump, and basketball throw against the other schools. Overall Mustang JROTC brought home 16 trophies. Color Guard Trophies
