Tatankah

Our Travel Buddy

Tatankah, Tatankah Where have you been?  I've been to London to visit the queen.

Tatankah (tah-tong-kah) is the American Indian Sioux name for buffalo. In fact the American buffalo is really a bison. Tatankah has been a travel buddy in my class for several years. He has traveled to my students homes and they have taken him on trips as well. One year he traveled to 4 classrooms around the USA in the states of Florida, Washington, Texas, and Nebraska.

In the summer of 2008 Tatankah took a fabulous trip to Storybook England. He went in search of Nursery Rhyme and story characters he had heard about in my class.  This trip was made possible by a grant received from "Fund for Teachers". Please visit the Photo Gallery for pictures from this awesome trip.
