My Favorite Teacher Sites

 Reading Lady - This site is at the top of my list for a good reason. A great online resource for Four Blocks Literacy and ideas to supplement your reading program or to interact with other educators as they expand their understanding of literacy teaching. Good for K-8! Excellent for younger grades!!!

The School Bell - Mainly first grade with great printables for teaching Dolch Words, Word Wall words.  Also uses technology to teach and has her kids do some awesome integrated tech projects.

Teachers.net - This resource is for pre-K to graduate school. Here you will find chat boards, mail rings, live chat rooms, lesson plans, job center and much more. My favorite is the chat boards. I visit: Early Childhood, Elementary, Travel Buddies, National Boards, and Technology.

The Teacher's Parking Lot - Penmanship fonts and handwriting practice sheets

School - Home Reading Kits - K-3 activities are organized by reading and literacy skills appropriate to grade. Under each specific skill, there are varying numbers of activities to help children develop their ability to read and write. For the categories that have multiple activities, you can download the entire section or the individual activities within that section by selecting from a pull-down menu.

McCraken Educational Services - My favorite literacy guru's own site. Invented the pocket chart and have loads of pocket chart things. You will find materials her to buy at great prices.

Help Your Child Learn Math - designed for parents but a great math resource and a site you might want your parents to go to.

Grandpa Tucker's Rhymes and Tales - Beware you may never leave this site.

 

Early Childhood Only

Ms. Pieczko's "Kinderhive" - Grab your garden gloves and dig in. The Teacher Page is fantastic and includes: Month by Month theme index, Kindergarten themes, travel buddy page, technology projects, bulletin boards and displays, internet projects. Check out the integrating Technology, this page focuses on Internet games that reinforce Kindergarten skills.

abcteach - Over 5,000+ printable pages. Sections include reading comprehension, shape books, center signs, themes units, games/puzzles, portfolios. A great teacher resource.

Kinder Korner - A site put together by a teacher and workshop presenter. Very valuable information, themes, author studies, and over 100 literacy centers.

Iteach 345's - This home page is for early childhood educators who use thematic lesson planning. While surfing the web, To use this site... just scroll through the list of themes and when you find a theme that you are interested in, select a link....it will take you directly to a site about that theme. Happy Planning!

Mrs. Fischer's Kinder~Themes - Wow! great place for themes. Organized by months. Also a song and poem section.

Hubbard's Cupboard -A cupboard full of resources. Includes a section on Family Involvement.

Mrs. Jackson's - A great site for themes and much more!!!

 

Author Sites

Jan Brett - This site is the top of my list of author sites. Most noteworthy books include: The Mitten, The Hat, Christmas Trolls, Armadollo Rodeo, The Wild Christmas Reindeer and many more.

Beatrix Potter - The Peter Rabbit Official Web Site. Take a trip to England and learn about Beatrix Potter, her art and literary accomplishments. 2002 marks the 100th year of the publication of her most renowed book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Tom Kitten's Playground has games and activities for students. The first one does not work well on slower computers but the rest do fine and my students enjoyed this site. It even reads books to them.

Seussville - A great place to visit for all lovers of Dr. Seuss. Games are appropriate for K-2. My class likes the Fox in the Box game.

Seussville University - This Dr. Seuss inspired site has more games to play and includes four categories: Math, Science, Reading and Reasoning skills.

Robert Munsch - Biography, poems, letters from classes, kids art, story time and unpublished stories. a very teacher and kid friendly site. Robert Munsch invites interaction with kids.

Berenstain's - Home of the that lovable bear family, the Berenstain Bears. Very kid appealing!

Rosemary Wells - This author is not as well known unless you are Early Childhood. It is great website for children to visit as well as teachers and parents.

Marc Brown - This site is in a form of a webquest for students to find out about Marc Brown author of the Author books.

Tomie dePaola - Not an official site and not as involved as sites above. But does have a good biography and could be useful for finding facts about this wonderful author.

Author Studies - This site by The Reading Lady gives lesson plans for the following authors: Verna Aardema, John Burningham, Eric Hill, Simon James, Patricia Polacco, and Faith Ringgold. EXCELLANT!!!!!

 

Sites for Kids

Between the Lions - a game/activity site that reinforces concepts on the PBS show "Between the Lions"

Enchanted Learning - A tremendous tool in the classroom but also a very fun place for kids to visit. I love using the Little Explorers dictionary. It acts like a dictionary and a search engine in one. Useful to kids up to 5th grade or more.

The Electronic Zoo - A great site for kids interested in animals. Sponsored by Net Vet.

Making Triangles - An interactive site using computer geoboards. Supports National Math Standards and has teacher lesson plans with it. I used this as a computer lab lessons. Explore this site for more math lessons.

Patterns - Creating, Describing, and Analyzing Patterns to Recognize Relationships and Make Predictions. Supports National Math Standards. Explore this site for more math lessons.

Miss Maggie's Earth Adventures - Very environmental appropritate!!!! Has lessons and games for Elementay students divided into two levels - Early and Upper.

Webquests

New Moon! Why did you leave so soon? - A 3rd grade webquest.

Centinneal of Flight - Upper Elementary or older, emphasis on American space and aeronautic events and people.

Aviation Herstory - Upper Elementary or older, emphasis on women in aviation and science.

Early Childhood Webquests

 The Animals are Lost! Help Bring Them Home! - Simple and fun, Farm and Zoo animals.

The Hungry Butterfly - Second graders look at life cycles and create animation.

The Colors in the Rainbow - Designed to be done as a class. Identify colors as well as color names.

The Coloring Book - Designed for first and second graders. A poster is the final project.

A Tooth Adventure - Designed for first grade on dental health.

Just Space - A resource site for students and educators.

NASA Quest - Meet the people of NASA and look over their shoulders as they make NASA's goals a reality. Whether in the area of aerospace design or training for space walks, NASA Quest is a rich resource for educators, kids and space enthusiasts who are interested in meeting and learning about NASA people and the national space program. NASA Quest allows the public to share the excitement of NASA's authentic scientific and engineering pursuits like flying in the Shuttle and the International Space Station, exploring distant planets with amazing spacecraft, and building the aircraft of the future.
