About Me

This is my fifteenth year at MNMS teaching seventh grade Literature. I love it here at North—it’s a special place. I enjoy seventh graders and truly believe it is my calling in life. I graduated from UCO in 1993 with a BA in English Educaton. I graduated from Edmond Memorial HS although I went to many different schools. I am married to Mr.Chris King, who teaches AP history/geography at MHS.  We have devoted our lives to teenagers both at school  and at our church.  We go to a youth church camp each summer and are the unofficial youth ministers at our church.  We have a seven- year- old daughter who is in 2nd grade at Mustang Creek.  We live in the area, go to church in the area, and never plan on leaving.  It is our community and where we’ve chosen to raise our family.

                                                                                    Mrs. Mellodie King

This is the third year I will be team teaching with Ms. Cutler, our Title 1 Reading teacher, in my 5th hour.  We will basically follow the same curriculum, but with a focus on improving reading skills with some struggling students in those hours.  She will be in there daily and we will both teach the subject matter.  It is important to note that she is not an aide or helper, but a teacher who will teach the curriculum with me and will also hold the students responsible for their academics and behavior alike.  It should be a terrific opportunity to help out some struggling readers in that class.

On weeks that we are in class Monday through Friday, the class will copy two sentences and define the vocabulary word each day with a vocabulary lesson and worksheet on Friday. The words and sentences are a grade each week in addition to the worksheet that accompanies it.   I will not list these daily words on the assignment list, but the worksheet will be listed on the appropriate day.  Vocabulary is also sometimes a lesson that I leave for substitutes…be careful to note any changes.  On weeks that are not full weeks, there will be some other kind of bellwork that will be graded as well.
