What is RISE?
RISE is Reaching
Individual through Successful Education. It is our Alternative Education
Program here at Mustang
North Middle
School. We take 6th-7th-8th
graders in various subjects, such as English, math, reading. The students are
mainstreamed into the remainder of their required courses as well as electives.
The students and the parents must both sign contracts in order to become
enrolled in RISE. The students will have to follow the contract obligations in
order to remain in the program.
RISE classes offer smaller class size. This
is turn allows the teacher to have more 1-1 time. Remediation and flexibility
in the classroom can both be an option. The teacher runs bi monthly checks on
the students to keep up with progress outside the RISE classroom. Traditional
classroom education takes place, as well as hands on projects mentoring and
community service projects are also a part of RISE. Life skills, organization,
and preparation habits are put into place. Follow through is, of course the
students responsibility.
Working closely with parents and keeping in
contact with parents is a big part of what helps to make RISE students more
successful.
HOW DOES A STUDENT RECEIVE PLACEMENT?
The usual procedure is done on a teacher
referral. However parents may also make request. The teachers as a team decide
that a placement into RISE may be a good option for a particular child. The
team leader then fills out paper work on the student and returns it to the RISE
teacher. The RISE teacher then reviews the information for any questions or
details that need to be filled in. A meeting is then set up for the team, a
counselor, and the RISE teacher to discuss the possibility of placement. If the
team is in agreement and there is room in the program, a meeting is set up for
the parents and student to meet the RISE teacher. At this time all parties are
informed on what RISE has to offer. The contracts are discussed and an interview
of the student and parent will take place. Following this meeting is the RISE
team meeting to decide if this student will be placed in the program. A
schedule change and placement date are also discussed at this time. The parents
are then called back in and the contracts signed along with any questions being
answered.

What
about Mrs. Hood
I graduated from MHS in 1982, and
from CSU in 1988 with a degree in Elementary Education. I have endorsements in
Language, Literature, and Fine Arts, Social Studies as well as Health/Safety/PE.
I am also highly qualified to teach math.
I am very happily married to my
husband of 23 years. Forrest, who is also a graduate of MHS. He works at Tinker
Air Force Base, and is retired from the Army Reserve. We are the proud parents
of 5 super kids. Four girls and One boy. Our three oldest have graduated from
MHS. Natasha graduated from SNU and is
working on her doctorate in Physical Therapy. Joshua attends OU Health and
Science Center where he is Junior majoring in Nuclear Medicine Technology. This
year we have a new college kiddo, Desirae, she is attending NSU in Tahlequah to
work in the field of Speech Pathology.
Rebekah is in 10th and Bethany in an 8th grader.
The girls both play soccer and take vocal lessons. We also have one grandchild
( I know, you’re thinking, no way is she old enough to be a grandma!). Braylon
is 2 ½ years old. We have a Golden Retriever named Cinnamon and a white Cocker
Spanial named Boomer. We also have 2 male cats, Precious, and Lucky. We live in
Mustang, and have done so almost all our
lives. We consider it home.
I enjoy playing soccer, and am on an
indoor soccer team, Sisters in the Hood. Watching my
children play soccer is also a big deal for me. I don’t miss a game unless it’s
to watch another sibling play. All 5 play soccer. Natasha played for SNU, while
Josh took the year off. Desirae also played for MHS.
I always try to come out and watch
your child participate in any extracurricular games. Please send me an
invitation to any event if you haven’t seen me around. I love watching them
outside the school setting and getting to know them in a different way. Your kids
mean very much to me, they are the reason I get up and come to work each day.
I was blessed to be able to stay home
with my children while they were growing up. I had a home day care for 11
years. I home schooled for 4 years and cleaned houses for others for 5 years. I
have taught 4th grade and PE, as well as Special Education in the
Elementary at Western Heights. This is my 5th year here at MNMS as
the RISE teacher. The students are what keep me coming back to do this job.
I have a few favorites that some of
the students asked me about.
My favorite animal is a horse with a lion as a
close second.
My favorite color is yellow.
My favorite car is a Mustang. (No I
don’t own one yet!)
My favorite hobby is playing soccer and
outdoor activities.
My favorite football team is Dallas
Cowboys (who else!).
My favorite food is Mexican.
My favorite drink is
strawberry-vanilla-Dr. Pepper from Sonic.
I am an OU fan and an OSU fan!!
I enjoy puzzles.
I like to run.
I love children.
I love the Lord!
