Welcome to Personal Finance I

This course will introduce many areas that will help enhance financial security.  Understanding ways to maximize one’s earnings potential, developing strategies for managing financial resources, exploring skills for the wise use of credit and discovering ways to manage risk are some of the topics that will be covered.

General Class Information

 

Materials Needed:

 1 folder with brads and pockets (stays in class)

 Notebook paper for folder

 Notebook for notes (you will keep this with you)

 Pen (black or blue ink) or pencil

 

Books:

Managing Your Personal Finances by Joan S. Ryan (5th Edition)

You will check one out through the book room to keep at home and you

will have one assigned to you in class.  Please use the book assigned to you!

 

Absent work:

 If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what material was covered.  I will have a calendar posted in class of all the work done each day.  You should always check this first.  Check the daily folders that are below the calendar to find any worksheets missed.  If you missed notes, you may need to borrow someones and copy them.  Any assignments missed must be turned in in a timely manner according to school policy. 

 

Grading:

 Will be based on total points. 

Daily work:  given as needed

Quizzes:  will be given over class notes – any notes taken on notebook paper may be used.  (No books or worksheets may be used)  These are usually 10 questions and worth 100 points. 

Tests:  Each test grade will count twice

Projects:  will be given throughout the course and points will vary depending on length and difficulty of the project

In Class Folder:   graded as needed.  Any bell work and all graded papers will be kept in the folder.  This folder will stay in the classroom in the assigned location.

 Final Exam:  This will be a cululative exam.  This grade will count three times. 

 

Late Work:

You will receive 3 late passes for daily work for the semester.  The pass must be attached to the late work and it can be turned in no later than 2 days late.  You will receive full credit for this work.  No other late work will be accepted.  All projects will be due on their due date – no exceptions.  Any unused late passes may be turned in at the end of the semester for 5 bonus points each on the final exam.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Class News
 

We’re beginning on unit on budgeting.  The students should be keeping track of their spending for the next 8 days.
