            The Boy from the Basement

           By: Susan Shaw, copyright 2004.

It's Charlie, just Charlie.

Last name?  What's that?  He doesn't know this just like he doesn't know about TV, Thanksgiving, Christmas, soccer or anything else a normal child would know.  Charlie doesn't even know how old he is. Or what being 12 (if he were that age) has to do with anything.

Charlie spends most of his time drawing in the basement where "Father" has sent him to be punished.  And then there is the spider. The red, flaming spider that hums and pulses when Charlie becomes frightened.  The spider that horrifies him day and night.  The spider...the awful nightmare spider...FATHER?

Charlie awaits the day when he'll be invited to come upstairs again to be a part of his family, Mother and Father and Charlie. He's allowed no food, no water, no blankets, nothing.   The day never comes.

Read this amazing tragic story and see how the truth unfolds.

Ihhhmmm...Ihhhmmm... the spider hums.

IF YOU LIKED, A Child Called It, you'll love this book.
