EARTHQUAKE WEBSITE HOTLIST

For this project you must choose one option from the following:

OPTION 1:  100 pts.  Create and build a model of an earthquake resistant building. Your model should be able to fit in a large shoebox.  There is an example shown on pg. 107, Figure 9.2 in your C.E. book.   Write a 1 page (front side)  typed report explaining why you chose your design and materials.

OPTION 2:  100 pts.  Make a newspaper that includes articles addressing the following topics:  A main story that is a description of the earthquake (Who, What, When, Where, and Why),  1 story about the economic impacts on the area that are caused by the earthquake, 1 story about the social impacts on the area, and a human interest story involving the earthquake.  You need to include at least one  picture in your newspaper.  Your newspaper needs to be designed like a newspaper with a title, byline, date, etc.

OPTION 3:  100 pts. Design and build a museum exhibit to display information about your event. Use a tri-fold display board (can be purchased at Wal Mart, Staples, Mardels, etc.) for this option.  Include pictures (these may be obtained off the internet, books, or magazines, but be sure to give credit), write articles about people, testimonials from eyewitnesses, data and statistical information about the earthquake, and any other important materials relative to the earthquake. Note:  Be sure that you are the author of the articles.  Don't just print or copy articles written by other people.

OPTION 4:  100 pts. Design and build a kit for citizens' emergency preparedness that contains at least 10 items that could be used in an earthquake disaster.  List the items in your kit and include a 2-page report explaining why you included the materials.  The report needs to be typed.

BONUS OPTION 5:  20 pts.Write a myth like the one in your C.E. book on pg. 118 that explains the causes of earthquakes.  You might want to use the basic characters like the Japanese giant fish or the Mongolian giant frog, etc. that are mentioned in the reading or you might want to make one up on your own.  Illustrate your story.
