Procedures for Mrs. Davis’ Class

  1. Dispose of food and drink before entering the classroom. This includes gum and/or candy.  Only bottled water is allowed in the classroom.

  1. When you enter the classroom, quietly walk directly to your assigned seat and get out your necessary supplies for class. All other materials should be under your desk.  Nothing in the aisles.

  1. You are expected to come to class prepared with all of your own materials.  However, if you run out of paper or need to borrow a pen or pencil, I will loan it to you before class time begins. You should return pens or pencils at the end of the hour.

  1. As you entered class today, you were assigned a seat.  This will be your permanent assigned seat unless I move you.

  1. Always sit up straight, facing forward, with your legs under the desk in front of you.  You are not allowed to put your head down or sleep in this classroom.

  1. You are expected to be in your assigned seat before the bell begins to ring or you will be considered tardy.  I take attendance by seating chart.

  1. Students entering the classroom after the bell will be required to sign the tardy clipboard.  If a sub is in the room, you will be required to obtain a tardy pass from the office.

  1. You will have an assignment on the board or projector every day before the bell rings for class to begin. This is called “Bell Work.” Immediately begin this assignment as soon as you are seated.  Your answers for the week should be written on the same piece of notebook paper and kept in the front pocket your binder until Friday. It is a grade. There should be no talking during this time.

  1. The day’s date can always be found written in the same place everyday: the top left corner of the white board by the window.

  1. The daily agenda will be written on the left side of the marker board by the window under the day’s date. This is the guideline on what we will do each day.  It may vary a bit by hour!

  1. I have a classroom set of textbooks.  When needed, the person in the back of the row will get one book for each person in his/her row.  The people in the front of each row will reshelf the books.  Only one person should be at the bookshelf at a time.  The person nearest the window will go first and then each row shall follow in order.

  1. Raise your hand and wait quietly to be called upon to share comments, ask/answer questions, or get permission to leave your desk (ex. Sharpen pencil/get tissue)

  1. Please take care of bathroom and water breaks during your passing period.  Do not ask to go during instructional time!

  1. Hall passes to the restroom, nurse, phone or counseling office are allowed at my discretion and ONLY during your work time.  You are given two hall passes for each semester. To use a hall pass, fill in everything on the pass completely and correctly and then bring it to me. I only allow one student to be gone at a time.

  1. You are expected to keep your work area clean.  However, you are not to get up to throw items in the trash can during class time.  Do this on your way out of the classroom.

  1. Class is dismissed by Mrs. Davis not the bell.  I will be looking for straightened rows, clean floors, returned materials, textbooks in number order, and students seated in their assigned seats.  To dismiss, I will say “You are dismissed”, “Have a good day”, etc.

  1. Please do not write on the desks.  If your desk has writing on it, you will be asked to clean it and possibly the other desks in the classroom.

  1. If a person speaks over the intercom or when announcements are made, you will stop working and listen carefully.  There will be no talking.

  1. If a visitor comes to the classroom door, the person sitting in the desk nearest the door will walk to the door and open it.  Any notes or messages need to be given to me not the student. The rest of the classroom should wait silently until I signal you to resume work.

  1. Students are allowed to write in blue or black ink or pencil.  You are allowed to write on the front and back of paper.  The paper can be college-ruled or wide-ruled.  Most assignments need to be completed on loose-leaf notebook paper.  Spiral notebook will only be used for vocabulary.

  1. Neatness is important.  Any answer I cannot read will be counted incorrect.  Also, it is important that your answers be thorough and be able to stand alone.  Avoid the use of pronouns.

  1. Assignments on notebook paper should be headed in the upper right hand corner with:

First and Last Name

Date

Hour

Assignment Title (as written on the day’s agenda)

  1. When we are grading papers in class, only the one assignment sheet should be on your desk.  The only writing utensil out will be the red grading pen.  You will grade your own work.  If you are gone on a day we are grading, but I already have your paper, I will allow another classmate to grade your work.

  1. When passing out materials, you will pass them to the person to your right. When passing in any materials, you will pass them toward the left of the classroom. The person on the end should stack the papers neatly before I collect them. After this time, all other papers will be considered late. NEVER place papers on my desk.

  1. All vocabulary assignments should have the terms numbered and underlined.  Skip lines between the definitions.

  1. If you have a question on an assignment, you are to receive help only from me unless this is during group work.  Group work time will be announced.

  1. When doing group work, like labs, all group members will be responsible for his/her work and paper.  Each member’s paper will be graded individually.

  1. While you are working I may need your attention.  I will usually walk to the front/ center of the room.  I will say, “I need your attention please.”  I will know I have your attention when you are not talking and looking in my direction.

  1. In a testing/quizzing situation, there is to be no talking or communicating with a classmate in any form or fashion until ALL the tests have been turned in to me or you will earn a zero for cheating.  I will verbally let you know when I have received all the tests.

  1. If you are caught cheating on an assignment/test, you will receive a zero and your parents will be called.  If you use someone else’s paper, you and that person will both receive a zero.  Not grading an assignment properly is considered cheating.

  1. If you finish with an assignment early, you may read a library book, a science magazine, work on another class’s work.  Writing and/or passing notes will not be allowed.  Notes will be taken from you and read at a later time.  Parents, counselors, or principals may be informed depending on content.

  1. If you missed class, check the calendar in the room for makeup assignments.  If needed, copies of the worksheets are placed in the hanging box near the calendar.  Get the missing worksheets out of the folder labeled with the day you missed. If you miss a test or quiz, you are responsible for making this up on the following Monday after school.  Absent work goes into my grade book as a zero until work is made up.  This includes tests. It is to your advantage to get this done as quickly as possible.

  1. Work turned in after deadline due to absence needs to be labeled “Absent on _/_” in order to avoid a late penalty. These assignments need to be given to me on your way into the classroom.  Place these papers IN MY HAND!  Never put anything on my desk!

  1. Assignments turned in any time after I have collected them, for a reason other than an absence, will be considered late.  Late work can be turned in, within one day, for a 50% deduction in your grade.  Place these papers IN MY HAND!  Never put anything on my desk!

  1. A student wishing to ask about his/her average or a specific grade will need to do this after class or wait until a grade check is passed out. Grade checks are passed out after each test is recorded. Students that get these grade checks signed, and return by the next class period, will earn a free 100% as a homework grade.  Students will not be penalized for not returning signed grade checks.  Please feel free to join Parent Connect if more frequent updates are needed.

  1. When walking to another room (ex. lab, library, etc.) there is to be no talking, nor stopping at the water fountains, restrooms or disrupting other classes. The person sitting nearest to the window will be the last one out of the room and will turn off the lights and will also shut the door. Please check the door to see that it locked behind you.

  1. In the case of a fire, we will walk silently and single file out the double doors just past the water fountains.  Leave everything at your desk.  I will be the last one out of the classroom.  You are expected to stay together as a class and remain silent while I take attendance. Failure to do so will result in an office referral!

  1. In the case of severe weather, Mr. Nelson will dismiss us by pods to walk to the locker rooms located under the old gym.  We will walk silently and single file.  Girls will go directly down the stairwell to the left of the water fountain.  Boys will walk through the gym to the other stairwell and down to their locker room.  It will be crowded and get hot.  Be patient!

  1. In the event of a lockdown, I will turn off the lights.  The student nearest the window will shut the blinds. All students are to silently sit on the floor in the area behind my desk and filing cabinets out of sight as much as possible.  It will be awkward and crowded.

  1. If I have a substitute in the classroom, all procedures apply.
