Mustang Public Schools Will Honor/Celebrate The Class of 2020
(Mustang, Oklahoma – April 27, 2020) – All jokes surrounding the Class of 2020 and the COVID-19 quarantine aside, the Seniors who make up the Mustang High School (MHS) Class of 2020 are truly special, and now they have something to look forward to as the District has announced plans to honor this outstanding class of students. “We want to celebrate this class and honor them because they deserve it,” Mustang High School Principal, Dr. Kathy Knowles said. “We do not envision this being a one time celebration, but a series of events.”
To begin, the high school administration reached out to members of the Senior Class for input which was used to guide the decision-making. “This is about them, and their accomplishments, so we wanted their opinions from the start” said Knowles. Currently, the Lloyd Noble Center is not hosting graduations, so we will be unable to hold graduation there on May 15, 2020 as planned. Instead, we are announcing a rescheduled date of June 20 and a backup date of July 25.
The District is waiting for confirmation from Lloyd Noble on those dates, but in the event that they are still unable to host, plans are in the works for use of the Mustang High School football field on one of these two dates. “We are announcing these dates now so that families have the opportunity to “hold” these dates and begin making tentative plans with family/friends,” she continued. The rescheduling will, of course, be dependent upon the status of any safer/stay at home orders and/or other guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and/or government entities, whether local, state or federal.
“In the event that Plan A and Plan B are not possible, we will still commemorate this amazing class with a virtual ceremony,” according to Dr. Knowles. “And. we still have a few other celebrations planned moving forward as well, but we want to surprise our families.”
“Expect something special on the evening of May 15,” Superintendent Charles Bradley added. “We will be thinking of these wonderful students on what would have been the night of their graduation ceremony, and have something special planned that will be rolled out on our Social Media that evening.”
Additional details will be available on the MHS website (http://www.mustangps.org/mustanghighschool_home.aspx) and through the District social media platforms.
