Mustang High School Student Qualifies For National Competition

The Mustang High School chapter of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) recently competed in the Oklahoma STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events Competition, with one student, Becca Pegram, placing second in the Job Interview portion.

STAR Events are competitive events in which FCCLA members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation.  Becca competed in the Senior Division for Job Interview, an event that recognizes participants who use Family and Consumer Sciences and/or related occupational skills to develop a portfolio, participate in an interview, and communicate a personal understanding of job requirements.

Becca prepared a portfolio, including a job application, and expressed her communication skills and job knowledge through an interview.  In doing so, she earned Silver Medal honors, and has now qualified to compete at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California on June 30-July 4, 2019.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private school through grade 12. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.  Today over 160,000 members in more than 5,300 chapters are active in a network of associations in 49 states, in addition to the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life -- planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal communication -- necessary in the home and workplace.
