It's time to apply for the Free and Reduced lunch program

Free and Reduced lunch applications are now available online. Families must apply for free or reduced meals every year. Child Nutrition Director Tammy Bales said Mustang Public Schools currently has approximately 35 percent of students on free or reduced meals but more people would likely qualify.

“The income guidelines change every year,” Bales said. “It doesn’t take long to apply and it could make a significant difference to a family over the course of a year. If you are not sure whether or not you qualify, it’s worth the time to apply. Anyone that has a question about filling out the information can call the Child Nutrition office at 405-376-7317 and we would be happy to help you.”

Download a copy of the application on the district’s child nutrition web page, http://www.mustangps.org/informationnews.aspx. Or, apply for free and reduced meals online at www.schoollunchapp.com. Hard copies are available at the Administration Building at 906 S. Heights Drive, at the Child Nutrition Office, or at school sites once they open to the public on Aug. 8.

“It’s very important that parents reapply as quickly as possible,” Bales said. There will be a short carryover period for students who were on the program last year, but if a parent doesn’t submit the paperwork again, we have to drop the children from the program near the end of September.”
