Letter to Parents- Schedule Changes Due to Enrollment

Dear Parent/Guardian:

We hope this letter finds you and your family doing well as we all adjust to the new school year!

Because of the growing enrollment at Mustang Middle School, we are having to make some changes. Mustang Public Schools continues to increase every year in student population. More than 500 students brand new to the district enrolled over the summer and more are continuing to enroll, even today.

For the 2016-2017 school year, Mustang Middle School’s population has grown by 8 percent, which means some of our class sizes have become larger than we would like. To address these large class sizes we had the opportunity to hire a new teacher, and make some adjustments in other teaching assignments.  These changes have taken place at both grade levels in our science, history, and math departments, and will help lower overall class sizes. Additionally, due to the increased number of students, we are making adjustments to our lunch schedules. We will be dividing lunches into three rather than two. The lunch schedules will be divided as follows:

  • 1st Lunch-11:22-11:52

  • 2nd Lunch-11:52-12:22

  • 3rd Lunch-12:22-12:52

This will allow us to have approximately 265 students per lunch period rather than 400. Students will get through the lines much more quickly and they will have more time to eat.

While we have attempted not to disrupt any more classes than necessary, we believe every student deserves the best education possible, and our students are better served by smaller classes.  Please know in advance that your child’s schedule could potentially be affected by this change. Students will go to their current first hour class on Tuesday, Sept. 6. We will distribute schedules to all students in that hour and we will begin the new lunch schedules on that date as well.

We appreciate your understanding and continued support. We know this will be a beneficial change and the students will adapt quickly. We explained the need for the changes and the procedure to our students this morning.
