The decision NOT to use the glasses we purchased for our students to view the upcoming eclipse was a difficult one for us. We were excited to purchase 1200 pairs of glasses for our students and staff to watch this rare and exciting eclipse.
We based our decision to cancel the outdoor activity based on the following: Amazon has recalled a multitude of similar glasses (with the same rating & prints), and although they have not recalled our particular item #, they could not assure us that the glasses we purchased were of quality to protect our students. Amazon stated multiple times that the protective eyewear we purchased was under investigation by a team and they would let us know if they were acceptable and safe. Because of Amazon's uncertainty and the multitude of similar glasses being recalled, we are not confident in the glasses so we cancelled the outdoor activity. We also decided since we have over 1000 students at CRI, it was too great a risk to take students outside to do an activity without the protective eyewear.
Although we are disappointed as well, we are confident we made the right decision. Teachers have planned a multitude of enjoyable and educational activities and lessons about this rare eclipse which include watching the NASA live streaming.
