Forty-five grants were submitted for consideration. Names and identifying information are removed from the applications before the MPSF committee reviews the submissions. Sommer said it took the committee three hours to choose which grants to award.

The Foundation does not fund projects or requests normally funded by the school system. Instead, it enables teachers who have creative instruction ideas to implement the projects.
