About Principal, Lauren Barnes

Dear Riverwood Families,

I am so thrilled to announce that I will be the new Principal of Riverwood.  I am so grateful for this experience. Riverwood is a great school where we strive to engage, encourage and empower every child, every day. Our school is full of highly effective educators and dedicated families that are committed to meeting students’ needs and making a positive impact in our community.

Not only am I excited to begin working with your children,  but I look forward to the work we will do together. As the old African proverb states, “ It takes a village to raise a child.”  I am excited to see your children through your eyes. I cannot wait to share with you the great things they do throughout their days here at Riverwood.  And of course, I will be here to work with you should they need any help navigating any aspect of the school day. My goal is to ensure that all children are healthy, happy and safe, so they may learn as much as they can.

I just completed my 17th year in education and all those have been here in Mustang. I began my career as a kindergarten teacher at Mustang Creek Elementary. The last 5 years I have served as the Assistant Principal of Mustang Trails and then Riverwood for the 2018-2019 school year. All of my experiences have been positive and have shaped my values and beliefs today. I am fortunate to work in the district that I was raised in. I feel it is important to give back to the community that molded me into the leader I am today.

Like I mentioned above, I was raised in Mustang. I attended Lakehoma Elementary, Mustang North Middle School, and graduated from Mustang High School. My college experience is a Bachelor of Science from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and a Masters in Administration from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. I am married to Gentry Barnes. He is a Medical Dosimetrist and works in Oncology. We have 3 beautiful children, Grayson, Traylon, and Braylee. They keep us pretty busy with sports but in our spare time we like to go to the lake and just hang out as a family.  I look forward to a great school year! I know it is going to be an exciting year for all of us!  Please know you can contact me anytime at .

About Assistant Principal, Jenifer Posey

It is with great excitement and honor that I will be serving as Assistant Principal for Riverwood. I am blessed to be part of the Riverwood family, serving as a 3rd Grade teacher last school year. This new opportunity is a blessing to continue developing a safe, loving, home-away from home for your children. We will work to continue our mission to Encourage, Engage, and Empower all students. I desire to exhibit my passion stated in one of my favorite quotes, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”. (Theodore Roosevelt)

This school year begins my 25th year in education. I have been a teacher, teaching 3 year olds through 4th grade, principal, and assistant principal. When asked which grade is my favorite, I always respond stating that each seems to be my favorite as I’m experiencing it!

My husband Lance and I have 4 daughters, 1 son-in-law, 2 grandsons, and 2 granddaughters. We have lived in the community for five years and enjoy attending sporting and community events.

I look forward to being a part of developing your children academically, socially and emotionally.

Together in Education,

Jenifer Posey
