2016-2017 announcements
A few housekeeping items for the start of the 2016-2017 school year:

• If you DO NOT want your child purchasing any ala carte items/Smart Snacks (approved by USDA) through the lunch line, please e-mail Thelma at [email protected] so we can flag their account.

• New 2016/2017 Free/Reduced Lunch Applications need to be completed as soon as possible so students will not drop off the program. We must have a new application turned in every year. Click here to download a paper application. Or, fill out the online application here: http://www.schoollunchapp.com/

• If a family has a child in school and already on the free or reduced meal program and has a younger child just starting school, let us know so we can put that child on the same free or reduced status as other kids in the family.

Offer Versus Serve
Yum! More choices at elementaries, intermediates for 2015-2016
Mustang Public Schools will be providing more options for elementary and intermediate students for the 2015-2016 school year. "Offer versus Serve" is a program approved by the USDA that allows students to refuse as many as two items of the five items that make up a school lunch (or one of four items at breakfast) as long as what they do select includes a half-cup of fruit, half-cup of vegetables or a fruit juice. As room allows, Mustang's school cafeterias will be offering a variety of fruits and vegetables for students to select from.

With the Offer Versus Serve program, students are no longer required to take milk or a milk substitute. Students can select a juice and two to four other items to make up their reimbursable meal. Allowing students to have more control of what is on their plate will be a bonus not only for the students, but should also lead to less food being wasted.

In addition to students being able to refuse one item at breakfast or two items at lunch, more entree options will be offered for both meals. For breakfast at Mustang's elementary schools and intermediate centers for 2015-2016, there will be two entrée choices every morning for breakfast: the main entrée OR cereal and a biscuit. For lunch, there will be three entrée choices every day for lunch. Students can choose one of the following:

Monday: main entrée, ham and cheese sandwich, or a chef salad
Tuesday: main entrée, a hot dog/corn dog, or a chef salad
Wednesday: main entrée, a PBJ sandwich, or chef salad
Thursday: main entrée, Bosco Sticks w/Marinara, or a chef salad
Friday: main entrée, turkey and cheese sandwich, or a chef salad

Child Nutrition Now Accepting Applications
Mustang's Child Nutrition department is accepting applications for cafeteria substitutes. Hours are approximately 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in a school cafeteria. Substitutes may work as lunch monitors or in dishrooms. Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and will need to submit to a current background check with fingerprints. For more information, call Carmene at 405-256-6931. The application for this support staff position is available here. This is a great opportunity for people with school-aged children, and could become a full-time opportunity.
Have you signed up with MySchoolbucks.com?
Setting up an account is free, and allows parents to view what their kids are spending their lunch money on. If you choose to make a payment through the online program, it will cost you a $1.95 convenience fee for each deposit transaction. Placing money into multiple meal accounts at one time is assessed as one deposit transaction. You will need your child's I.D.# in order to set up an account. This # is on your child's report card, and is their library #. This same I.D.# will be your child's # as long as they attend Mustang schools, so it's good to learn it. You can make payments to your child’s lunch account as early as Aug. 1, 2014! Have questions? Call us at 376-7317.
