Bonnie Lightfoot, superintendent of Mustang Public Schools, always knew that she wanted to be involved in education. She got her start in an elementary classroom, energized with the thought of helping each child improve and be successful. That drive to help is a common thread throughout her 35-year career.

As a teacher, she saw students struggle with problems and concerns that had nothing to do with curriculum. She became a counselor to make a difference for those students. She later earned her Oklahoma Principal’s Certification.
“One of my principals encouraged me to seek administration,” she said. “He felt that I had leadership abilities that would make a difference.”
Lightfoot was a principal in the Moore school district before coming to Mustang as an assistant superintendent. Two years later, she was promoted to deputy superintendent where she served for 10 years before accepting the job of superintendent in 2008.
“I was honored to assume the position of superintendent of the Mustang Public School District,” she said. “My pledge is that I will continue to do everything I can to keep Mustang at the top in every area. My goal will always be to never let anything get in the way or distract us from what the real issue is: the education and well being of our students. This district will measure success by every student who graduates.”
Lightfoot is active in educational organizations and serves on the board of directors for the Chamber of Commerce. In addition to education, she was a financial adviser and agent for the NFPLA where she negotiated contracts for professional athletes. She was also a business owner and served as vice president and treasurer for Wagoner Fiberglass Products, Inc. for 13 years. |
