Empowering Today to Achieve a Better Tomorrow

Public Schools

Rachel Cowan

Welcome to 4th Grade!

A little about me... I am married to my wonderful husband, Austin, and we have one beautiful daughter, Kaylyn. I graduated from SouthPicture of Mrs. Cowanwestern Oklahoma State University with my degree in Elementary Education. I am currently in my last semester of graduate schooling where I am obtaining my masters in Curriculum and Instruction. I taught at Centennial in second grade for two years before my husband took a job in Tyler, TX. I took the year off when we moved and spent time with our daughter! Just 10 short months later we moved right back to Mustang, OK when my husband was offered at position at OU. I knew immediately I wanted to be back at Centennial doing the very thing I love, teaching! Last year, I taught first grade but I was asked to move up to fourth grade this year! I am so excited to get back in the classroom this year, especially teaching fourth grade! I love working with kids but in my off time I enjoy doing ANYTHING outdoors. We love sports (BOOMER) and enjoy cooking out and watching whatever sporting event is taking place that day!
You will be able to find a lot of important information here on my website but also be sure to check your child's folder for important notes that may come home.
Feel free to contact me by phone, email ( or Remind! I try to respond as quickly as possible during school hours.

Continuous Learning Plans

The district plan is designed to give every student the same opportunity to maintain their learning even if they do not have access to technology.  Below is the link to the district Distance Learning Plan Homepage. From there you will need to click on the 'elementary' image and the select 1st grade. I have also attached 1st Grades Distance Learning Plan.
This website will update often with new resources, so please check back frequently. Should you have any questions, please let me know. We are all learning together but I will do my best to figure out answers!
Each week I will hold two virtual meetings via Google Meet. We will meet on Tuesday mornings from 9am-10am and Wednesday evenings from 6pm-7pm. I'm asking for students to attend ONE of those meetings, whichever works best for your schedule! I will be answering any questions, reading a book and doing a fun science activity! The same thing will be presented at both meetings. I will send a link out for your student to join our meeting via Remind. It is very important that you are frequently checking Remind, as that is my main source of communication now. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! Again, I will do my best to work through this challenging time!
Lexia Core5 Reading: (
This is a great reading resource to help your child continue to grow this year! Attached is the parent letter that will help you on getting started. The first time your child logs in, he/she will be directed to take a placement test. This 'test' will take about 10-15 minutes to complete. Please make sure you encourage your child to do their best, but don't give them the answer. This program is really great in filling gaps your child may have or challenging them to complete new skills. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Birthday Information

Birthday Snacks

Student birthdays will be recognized once a month.  All students recognizing a birthday for that month, will bring their treat the same day.  We have decided to recognize birthdays at the end of each month. If you would like to bring a treat, please let me know ahead of time so I know how many to expect. Also, please remember there might be multiple people brigning things so please send MINI cookies/cupcakes or another small treat. Other suggestions are fruit gushers, fruit roll-ups, little debbies, and mini brownie bites.  Parents are welcome to send snacks with their child the morning of the designated day or they may drop them off at the office before 9:00 am.  Please do not feel obligated to send anything. It is only by choice. We appreciate your understanding in this change.  I have attached a list of dates for our birthday snacks.

August Birthdays – August 30th

September Birthdays – September 27th

October Birthdays – October 25th
