About Ms. Taylor

Hello! My name is Meaghan Taylor and I am honored to be the Functional Skills teacher at Meadow Brook Intermediate. I graduated from Mustang High School and I am so happy to teach in this wonderful district. I have earned my Bachelor's degree in Special Education from The University of Oklahoma, and my Master’s Degree in Special Education with concentrations in Transition Education and Applied Behavior Analysis. I am a huge sports fan and my favorite teams are the Oklahoma Sooners and The Chicago Cubs! Some other hobbies/interests of mine include music, dancing, exercising, hiking, crafting, and my precious golden retriever and future therapy dog, Ivy! I also spend a lot of my time at church and with my family.

I have known that Special Education was my calling since I was very young, and I am truly so lucky to get to work with my students every single day. My main goal for my students is to help them become independent members of their communities, and learn important academic, social/emotional, and functional life skills to help them achieve that. I am so excited for what my students are going to accomplish at Meadow Brook! :)

About Functional Skills

In the Functional Skills classroom, we will be working on a variety of different Cognitive Skills that unclude ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies. These different skills will be based on each student's IEP goals and their individual needs. These goals are determined by the disctrict's Functional Skills Assessment and Curriculum. Some other ways we pratice the core subjects are through programs called News2You, Unique Learning System, and Readtopia. These are interactive academic programs that teach subjects like ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies in a way that is more suited for our students' learning styles.  On top of Cognitive Skills, this curriculum also includes Job Training Skills, and Self Help Skills. Not only will we practice academic skills, but we will also practice cooking, a variety of different chores, hygeine skills, and social skills, among several others. Students in the Functional Skills classroom will spend most of their time in my classroom, but will also be exposed to inclusion time with their peers during their Life App class. Life Apps include Music, Band, Art, Technology, Spanish, Communications, PE, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

Feel free to email me if you have any questions about the curriculum, Life Apps, or any other aspect of the Functional Skills class.
