Jaid Wehrenberg

Mrs. Wehrenberg's COVID-19 Response & Encouragement

My name is Jaid Wehrenberg, and I am your child's Eighth Grade teacher for ELA. I have so enjoyed working with each student all year long, and I am sad that I will no longer get to work with them face-to-face. However, the Distance Learning plan from the district will be a way your student can still find learning enrichment opportunities for the remainder of the year. I decided to get into education because I truly love learning, and I am excited to provide your student some fun, educational activities for the remainder of the school year. My hope is that the learning activities will provide your student with exciting brain breaks from the craziness that is going on in our world right now, since I know I also need something besides Netflix and video games during the next couple months.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you need anything via email, and I will do my best to assist you. I'm hoping your family will view this time as unexpected but enjoyable increased time with your family!

Distance Learning Plan

The distance learning plan during the COVID-19 Closures will be educational resources for each subject area each day of the normal school week. These activities are meant to enrich your child's education during the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. The students will be deepening their knowledge on content we have already learned, rather than learning new material. Weekly templates with assignments will be available via each teacher's Google Classroom pages. Teachers will be available for contact via email throughout the week. Additionally, each teacher will be available for an office hour time period. My office hours will be Monday's at 10:30 via Google Hangout.  Please join me if you have questions or want to talk about how you are doing during this time period. I appreciate your flexibility during the rest of the school year and I am excited to provide resources to deepen knowledge of English!

Google Classroom Information

For students to access the educational resources, they will need to login to Google Classroom. We have been using Google Classroom throughout the year, but just in case your child forgot how to access it, I am putting a list of steps here.
1. Go to Google and ask your child to login using thier Mustang email information. The email starts with the lunch number, their last name, then They should know their own password. If another email account is currently logged in, I would recommend logging out, as the school email is touchy on who has accesss to documents.
If they forgot their email, go to this  and use their student ID to get the password changed.
2. In the top right corner of Google, have students click on the "Waffle," or 9 Grid Pattern. One of the options listed is Google Classroom.
3. Click on my class, "English 2-3," "English 4-5," or "English 6-7," depending on which hours your student has me.
4. Click on the classwork tab at the top of the screen, and click on the weekly template.
That is it! Please let me know if you run into any technology issues, and I will try my best to help.

Contact Information

The best way to contact me during the COVID 19 Closure is via email between 8:40-3:35

Office Hours:

Monday at 10:30 via Google Hangout

Join me at Google Hangout for questions on homework or if you would like to check in with me during social distancing.

Again, I will be happy to answer any questions during normal school hours via email. Feel free to reach out!

Reading Resources

All of my students know I love READING! Times like this, when there is nothing to do and even Netflix gets boring, I encourage you to set a reading goal and try to accomplish it! You may not have an endless supply of books available to you, especially with libraries and book stores closed. Thankfully, there are some online resources availalable for you to keep on reading during this time!
Since you are a Mustang student, you have free access to plenty of books to keep you occupied.  Get on and check out what is available!
Audible  or YouTube
Audible, an online audiobook service, is providing FREE access as long as students are out of school. This is an awesome opportunity to increase your book count and enjoy storytelling in a different way :).  Youtube also has several free audiobooks if you go hunting hard enough!
Goodreads is a fun way to keep track of books you have read, and set reading goals to keep you reading! My current book goal for 2020 is 150, but with the extra time I have, I'm hoping to hit 200 this year! Join me on Goodreads and set a reading goal :).
