Mustang Public Schools will be offering a limited option for full-day pre-kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year. Pre-Kindergarten Round-up will be held at Mustang High School in the Commons from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on March 26. Parents need to bring a completed packet, available at www.mustangps.org/enrollment.aspx
plus supporting documents to the round-up.
Stacy Edwards, executive director of elementary schools, said most full-day options will be at the district’s eight elementary schools. Once the full-day program is full, a limited number of half-day positions will be available. Half-day classes will likely be at Mustang Education Center. Or, parents can choose half-day as their program of choice.
“We currently offer more than 620 spots for pre-k students,” Edwards said. “We have 23 full-day classes and 6 half-day classes.”
Slots will be filled by lottery and not in the order they are received.
Parents of students who will be old enough for pre-kindergarten in August should bring their completed packets to Pre-Kindergarten Round-up. Students must be 4-years-of-age on or before Sept. 1, 2019 to be eligible to be enrolled in pre-k. Attendance is required to be entered into the drawing for full-day pre-k. Parents must turn in completed enrollment packets, with all the correct supporting documents and an up-to-date shot record to be part of the lottery. Packets and a fact sheet with additional information are available online at www.mustangps.org/enrollment.aspx.
Arriving early at Round-up will not increase a child’s chances of getting a full-day pre-k spot. Enrollment will be determined by an impartial drawing of all eligible students at a later date and is not determined by the order the packets are received. Parents will receive a call no later than May 1, 2019 to verify their child’s enrollment and which school they will be attending for 2019-2020.
Transportation is not provided for pre-kindergarten, but full-day pre-kindergarten students will have the option to attend BroncoClub, the district’s after-school program, in the afternoons.
Packets received after Pre-K Round-up will be placed on a waiting list.
